Two styles of okedo are available. Daibyoushi-daiko are okedo with heads 24 inches or smaller and have a length approximately equal to the diameter of the heads. Oshime-daiko have a length approximately 1.25 times the diameter of the head. Daibyoushi-daiko in the smaller sizes are popular for carrying on stage while dancing. Oshime-daiko in larger sizes are used by some groups as their big drum as a less expensive and lighter, yet visually impressive alternative to a large odaiko. Small okedo fit well with shime and small nagado to make a set with different sounds and pitches.
